Project Name: Nintendo Nostalgia
Project Goal: To invoke nostalgia in those who grew up with the Nintendo 64.
Project Process: This project began by picking out my 10 favorite Nintendo 64 games. I sat down and planned out what exactly I wanted from this book, and came up with a few things: plot synopsis, plot sysnopsis as I remember it from an eight year old's perspective, popular cheat codes, screenshots, most memborable moments, ESRB rating, players allowed, genre, publisher, and date published. After running through my favorite game, Perfect Dark, I realized the book would be enormous. Due to time constraints, I cut the book down to two games and decided it would be a sample for an idea.
The first step for Perfect Dark and Goldeneye 007, my two chosen games, was to write down the plot as I remembered it so it wasn't spoiled after playing the games. Next, I played through the first few levels and photographed the television at regular intervals. Reviewing the images, I pulled the clearest shots from each and put them in the book with the most memorable moments designed with edges in the shape of the game cartridge. Next I created a navigation page for the beginning of the book that pointed out where to look for each bit of information on the pages and what different icons meant. The book is typeset in DIN, a typeface I feel has the leading, kerning, and tracking of a well developed typeface while maintaining an aesthetic similar to the tyepfaces used in video games.
